IS IT FACTUAL TO SAY TUPAC SHAKUR REALLY STOLE 'DEAR MAMA '?

FREESPEAK BY JOHNNY SPANONE

When you speak of classic hip-hop songs, Tupac's track ' Dear Mama ' will certainly make the list. Dear mama was released in 1995 though it was recorded in 1994. As soon as the song was released, controversy arose. Kill Kill a rapper from Watts, Los Angeles, accused Tupac of stealing the concept of his song, ' Mama Dear ' which Tupac released as, 'Dear Mama' after Kill Kill handed him a  demo tape at 92.3 The beat radio station now known as KRRL.

Kill Kill's track was released in 1994, one year before Tupac released his. The angered rapper went on to release a diss track against Tupac in 1995 called ' Here we go ' claiming he thought Tupac was a friend and an authentic rapper, just to find out later that he was just a fraud and a fake.

At the time the diss track by Kill Kill was released, Tupac was in jail serving a sentence after being accused of rape the previous year and couldn't respond. However Tupac was bailed out the same year by Suge Knight, the then CEO of Death Row records. This was a controversial record Label from the West Coast at the time, due to its beef with Bad Boy Records from the East. This brewed the famous East vs West rivalry in the '90s. Sadly the conflict led to the death of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious Big on Sept.13.96 and Mar.9.97 respectively.

Before Tupac died he responded to Kill Kill in Tupac fashion, with the brutal diss track                  'When we ride on our enemies, using the same beat Kill Kill had used to diss him. This is one of the more memorable diss tracks by the artist, where he also went against other rival East Coast MCs, 'The Fugees' being among the casualties.

My own thoughts are, both Kill Kill and Tupac subconsciously got the concepts of their songs from the legendary Soul band, 'Karma', which they took from the band's song 'Mama Dear', released in 1978 from their last album 'For Everybody'.

The legendary band only released two albums before they disbanded.

What are your thoughts?
