DID RWANDA JUST BRING HIP HOP TO THEIR BASKETBALL COURT?
The B.A.L. or in full the Basketball African League is a recently unveiled, African basketball league that is supported by the International Basketball Federation and the US basketball league famously known as the NBA. It is the first professional, NBA-sponsored basketball league outside the US. The league consists of 12 teams, each team has to qualify through their domestic competitions to be considered as a qualified participant in the new international basketball competition,
Initially, the league's matches were supposed to be held in seven chosen cities across Africa. However, due to the worldwide covid 19 epidemic, all the matches scheduled venues were abandoned, and the games were rescheduled to take place in Rwanda, Kigali.
It was noted that Rwanda was considered by the sponsors of the event as a potential host nation due to its recent heavy investment in sports and sports tourism. In recent years, the country has bid and successfully hosted various sporting events, including golf and bicycle racing competitions, which are rarely hosted in African countries. One of the largest sporting events the country had recently hosted was the CECAFA under 17 African cup of Nations soccer championship.
On their part, the Rwandan government saw sports tourism as a way to increase the number of tourists visiting the country each year. Now it has come to bear them fruit with them being chosen as the host of the basketball African league, but that was not all. The world-famous American rapper J Cole, who has been an active supporter of basketball in America and a part-time player of the game, recently launched his career in professional basketball by signing a deal with the Rwandan patriots, a Rwandan professional basketball team.
The 36-year-old rapper will be playing as a shooting forward for the team in the NBA-Sponsored African basketball league, which kicked off on May 17th, 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda
PLUS J COLE HAS A NEW RECENTLY RELEASED MAY 2021 ALBUM CALLED THE OFF-SEASON.
